Grow Rose from a Cutting

We have already seen how to rescue the Rose plant. If you have not checked it yet please go through the link What happens with Rose plants?

Now in case these tips couldn’t work then you can try regaining your plant back with a Rose plant cutting.

Material needed:        1.  A long and healthy branch of a rose plant to cut down into pieces

                                                  2.  Cutting shears

                                                  3.  Rooting hormone

                                                  4.  Soil

                                                  5.  Pot

                                                  6.  Plastic bag

Steps 1:                                           Cut out a longer and healthy branch of the Rose plant using cutting shears, generally you will get such branch from the sides rather
than the center of the plant

Step 2:                                     Cut down the branch into the pieces (minimum 6 inches)

Step 3:                                     Remove all the leaves leaving the node part behind

Step 4:                                            Now cut each branch at the bottom (Below the node) at a 45 degree angle. This part will generate the plant roots

Step 5:                                    The next step is to apply some rooting hormone on the cut part, rooting hormone helps the cutting to develop new roots. There are 2
types of rooting hormones one is natural and another is chemical. Chemical rooting hormones can be in powder, liquid or gel form.

Step 6:                                             Dip the cut part of the cuttings in either natural rooting hormone like honey or chemical rooting hormone. The rooting hormone not

just helps root growth but it also prevents weeds growth.

Step 7:                                             Now take a pot filled with the soil (cocopeat(50%) + Sand(30%) + Soil(20%)).

Step 8:                                            Before placing the cuttings into the soil, make holes for them using a stick. Never Never Make holes using the rose cutting itself.
Rubbing the cutting on the soil to make the holes will remove the rooting hormone from the cut part which is not good for them.

Step 9:                                    Add some water in the soil (not much). Cover the cuttings after placing them in the pots using a plastic bag. Place the plastic in such
a way so that it will never touch the cuttings
. This will reduce the possibility of fungal growth caused due to wetness.

Step 10:                                           The plastic bag should not be wrapped tightly around the pot and add a small hole in it. Place the pot in morning sunlight. Don’t put it
in the strong sun but make sure it will get enough
sunlight for at least 1 hour.

Step 11:                                            After 5-7 days of checking the result, Some changes will definitely be seen.

Step 12:                                           Now wait for another 5-7 days, You will see leaves opening from the nodes.

Step 13:                                           At this stage check for the weeds growth in the pot and remove it. After 10 days the plastic bag will capture a lot of moisture on it,
remove that extra moisture and cut a small corner of it and cover the pot again.

Step 14:                                          If the soil is moist no need to add water. Large amounts of water might cause root rot.

Step 15:                                           Check the results every 5 -7 days and keep adding holes in the plastic bag as soon as you see new leaf openings. This will allow the
cutting to breathe and remove extra moisture.

Step 16:                                           Check the plant again after 5-7 days. Check if all the cuttings are growing well. If any of them is showing slow growth or no growth just
                                                  remove it.

Step 17:                                            The winter season is good for growing the rose plant from the cuttings.
