 DIY - How to prepare Cocopeat at home

Hello everyone, As we advised using coco peat frequently, it can be considered a must while gardening. Let’s have a quick look towards its benefits.
 

  1. Coco peat can be used as potting mix or you can mix it with the soil to improve its texture and aeration

  2. Coco peat lasts up to 8+ years, so gives long term benefit as a potting mix

  3. It can be reused over 3 to 4 years

  4. Coco peat comes with pH ranging approximately 5 to 6.8 which can be considered neutral

  5. Coco peat hold the moisture for long time but prevents bacterial or fungal growth

  6. With the great oxygenation power coco pear boosts up the healthy growth of plant roots

  7. Absolutely natural, organic and safe to use

    It is pretty simple to prepare coco peat on your own.  What you all need is;

 

  1. Coconut husk

  2. Water

  3. Scissor(Keep away from kid’s reach)

  4. Grinder

 

Note: DO NOT use Coco peat immediately after preparing for germinating the seeds. Rest it for some time before use.

Steps to prepare coco peat

 

  1. Whenever you peel off the coconut husk, don’t throw it away as you can use it for your plant.

  2. The next step is to soak the husk in the water. Before that add some compost/ into the water so that the coconut husk will get easily decomposed. 

  3. Keep this mixture aside for at least 2 months.

  4. Make sure there is no fungal growth in the mixture.

  5. After 2 months, separate the husk from the water. DO NOT throw this water as you can use it as a compost too.

  6. Place the husk on a thick paper so that extra water will be absorbed. 

  7. Now you can easily cut the wet husk into pieces using a scissor.

  8. Pour these pieces in the grinding jar and grind it finely. 

  9. You will have 2 products one is coco peat and another is coco fiber, both can be used as per the need.
